“COLONEL BARKER’S” DEBTS
FIRST AND FINAL DIVIDEND Creditors of “Colonel Barker, V.C.” known as the man-woman, arc to receive a first and final dividend of 2s 44d in the pound in connection with her bankruptcy. In the London Gazette she is referred to as: “Lidias Irma Valerie Arkell-Smith, described in the receiving order as Leslie Ivor Victor Gauntlet Bligh Barker, lately carrying on business at Litchfield Street, in the County of London and residing at Hertford Street in the County of London, restaurant proprietor.” “Colonel Barker,” became notorious last year when it was discovered that she had masqueraded for some years as a man, and had even “married” another woman. She was charged with making a false declaration in connection with the marriage and was sentenced at the Old Bailey to nine months’ imprisonment.
