ALMOST IN DARKNESS

CHRISTCHURCH’S PLIGHT NO RAIN AT LAKE COLERIDGE. [ Per Press Association. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Sept 14. Although there is every indication of a north-west storm and a light north-wester is blowing at Lake Coleridge there has been no rain this afternoon. The city was in almost total darkness on Saturday night. All suburban streets were without lights and in the centre of the city very few lights were burning. Voluntary restriction on the load have achieved considerable economies; more, in fact, than the authorities expected.

On Saturday Press Association advice from Christchurch stated that north-west conditions were predicted in the Lake Coleridge district on Sunday. This was expected to lead to heavy rain in the watershed.
