GAMBLING FACILITIES

PROTEST BY CHURCHES MR RANSOM’S REPLY [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Sept. 2. A strong protest against any increase in gambling facilities, either through the tote or by means of art unions, was made by a deputation representing the united churches to the Hon. E. A. Ransom to-day. It was asked that no further art union permits should be granted and that facilities should not be granted for the passing of the Gaming Amendment Bill. Mr Ransom, in reply, said that he intended to stand by the assurance already given that the Gaming Amendment Bill would be given a fair run. With respect to art unions he was prepared to reopen the matter with the Government.
