ACCIDENTAL DEATH

KNOCKED DOWN BY TBAM [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Kept. 2. A verdict of accidental death was returned by the Coroner, Mr F. K. Hunt., 8.M., at the inquest concerning the death of Christopher Smith, conductor of the Auckland Municipal Band, who was knocked down by a tramcar on August 27. Deceased died from his injuries while being conveyed to the Auckland hospital. John Edgar Pollard, tramway motorman, said that shortly before 8 o’clock in the evening he noticed a man crossing the road from the left. Witness sounded the gong three times but deceased did not heed the W’arning and stepped straight in front of the tramcar.

In giving his finding the Coroner completely exonerated the motorman from blame.
