WOMEN’S INSTITUTE AT WAVERLEY
The Waverley Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting on Tuesday August 12, when over 20 members were present. A motion of sympathy was passed to two members, Mrs Quale and Mrs Jifkins, who had each lost a little daughter. It was decided to send a delegate to the Dominion conference, to be held at Wellington in October. The usual accounts were passed for payment and it was decided to hold a Christmas tree, also to keep a set of baby clothes for loaning out. Next meeting the members are holding a bulb show. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs McGonagle and. Mrs McGorie who dispensed a delicious afternoon tea. Five new members were enrolled. A upmonstration on fancy work was given by Mrs Quale and a vote of thanks was passed for her kindness in giving the lesson. In the evening the Women’s Institute and the footballers held one of their popular fortnightly old time evenings which was a great success. The music was supplied by Mrs Haycock, Mrs Anderson and Miss Hawkins playing extras. Songs were given by Mrs Southcombe and Mr Fitzgibbon. Mr and Mrs Middleditch won the spot waltz, Mr Sinclair and partner winning the Monte Carlo. The singing of “Autd Lang Syne” brought a very happy evening to a 6 close. OKOIA TENNIS DANCE On Thursday evening the Okoia Tennis Club held another of their popular dances. The hall was beautifully decorated with wattle, ferns and streamers of the club’s colours, making a delightful setting to the many beautiful frocks. Among those present were: Mesdames Spooner, McGrail (3), Field, G. RJones, Lindsay, Clarke, Taylor and Laugerson, Misses Taylor, O’Leary, Dulcie, Hogg, Stewart (2), Gaunt, McIntdr, Lampitt, Long (2), Priest, Mon«gomery, Herd, Wright, Black, and many others. A HAPPY EVENING A very enjoyable evening was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. a. Anderson, Kaneanar, Waverley, recently when about 30 guests were presentDancing was carried on in the drawingroom and dining room till the eany hours of the morning. Games and muslcan items also formed part of the evening’s entertainment. A delicious supper was served and everyone thanked the host and hostess for the pleasant evening-
