HEALTH EXAMINATIONS

T’HE Hon. Mr Stallworthy is offering a useful suggestion to the 1 public when he advocates that persons in normal health should submit themselves to a periodical physical overhaul or inspection by a medical man. The policy which is denied to be go d enough for a motor-car because of its value should also be of at least equal value when applied to the human machine. There is certainly a difference between the human body and a mechanical machine, in that the human body usually becomes conscious through pain when all is not well. But when such a stage has been reached the possibility of remedial measures being beneficial has been greatly reduced. The old saying that a stitch in time saves nine applies with force to bodily health. How many an aggravated bodily ill condition could . have been stayed had professional advice been sought in time? How many a life would have been prolonged? How many hours of pain and anguish would never have had to be endured, had competent medical advice been sought before the dam burst. By all means seek medical advice and inspection, but also be certain that the overhaul is undertaken by a competent practitioner.
