FALSE PRETENCES

SALESMAN SENT TO GAOL [ Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 23. Discharged from prison on May 28, A. Gower, alias Phillip Augustus Kesler, aged 23, salesman, was to-day sentenced to a year, being three r.onths’ gaol cumulative, on each of four charges of false pretences. He also received fourteen days’ concurrent on a charge of theft. Apparently accused camo to Wellington after his discharge from Waikuno and here stole a cheque book from the Rev. Feilden Taylor and by means of valueless cheques obtained altogether £4 16s 6d. He had a long list of previous convictions.
