SANDON

TE KAWAU RUGBY SUB-UNION. [Special to “Chronicle.”] Competition games played on Saturday resulted as follows: Senior. Rongotea 13, v. Oroua Downs 3. Jtinior. Huia 9, ▼. Hui Mai 3. Schools. Rangiotu-Bainissi 22, v. Sandon-Car- , narvon 5. The senior game, Awahuri v. Huia Mai, set- down to be played at Sanson, was postponed on account of the death of Mrs W. Graham, of Awahuri. The local school combined team were well beaten by the Rangiotu combination. The winners were heavier than rhe visiting team and the score, 22 to 5, did not truly represent the run of play. The score for the losers was got by Ellery, the extra points being added by P. Gedye. The local juniors left for Rangiotu with a mixed team and played with 14 men. A fairly even game ended with the score: Rangiotu 9 (three tries), Hui Mai 3 (a penalty kicked by J. Fagan). Oroua v. Te Kawau. Local football fang were not much impressed by the showing put up by the Te Kawau reps, playing against Oroua Sub-Union at the show grounds, Palmerston North. The opinion is generally expressed that selector J. Cameron will be wise if he re-organises the team for the next game. In the game at Palmerston the only backs to play up to form were Goldfinch, Drum- ( mond, Moffatt and Thompson. Moffatt was probably the best back on the ground. Of the forwards, Rivers, Simpson, Payne, Eddie Gust, and Alger ( were the best. The team missed W. Taylor for his hooking; this player met with an accident which kept him out of the game. Local enthusiasts listened in to the test game on Saturday and general ; surprise was expressed at the result. ' The writer is of opinion that the visit- ' tors are a good team and will take a power of beating in any of the four tests, that is, unless accidents rob them of some of the star players.
