SOME SPLENDID EXERCISES (By H. C. Aylen) Many middle-aged women arc troubled by an amount of superfluous fat which is anything but becoming. Apart from food —which we have discussed before in these articles and providing there is no heart or other trouble, out-door exercises and special physical training to reduce the abdomen should be taken. Here is one exercise for indoors: Lie flat on the back, slowly raise then lower them to the first position, then lower them to the first postiion, once more lying flat. Repeat this exercise very slowly six' times each night and morning. Follow it up with this one: Lie flat again, cross the arms over the chest and, keeping the heels on the floor, rise to a sitting positionAlternately, unfold the arms and fling them forward as you rise. Another good exercise for reducing the abdomen is the following: Stand upright. Clasp the. hands over the abdomen. Contract the muscles sud-l denly, taking care not to lift the chest appreciably.
