FATAL LOOK INTO MIRROR

Dora Lang Riding, a 15-year-old girl of Winchmore Hill, met with a terrible death lately. Employed in the office of a firm of publicity agents in the Strand, she looked in a mirror on the mantleshelf over an open fire grate. Her clothing caught fire, and she became enveloped in flames- These were extinguished by a man who rushed to her aid- Her injuries, however, were so severe that she succumbed in Charing Cross Hospital. In recording a verdict of “Accidental death,” the Westminster coroner, Mr Ingleby Oddie, remarked: “This is the case of a girl who was standing in front of a mirror titivating herself, when her clothing caught fire.”
