CAMPBELL STATUETTE
DOMINION CADET PREMIERSHIP CENTRAL COMMAND TEAM Next Thursday evening, “A” Company, 2nd. Cadet Battalion, Welling,ton West Coast Regiment who have been selected to represent the Central Command in the Campbell Statuette Competition for 1930, will bo judged at the Wanganui Drill Hall, by a General Headquarter’s Board, the personnel of which is as follows: Major S- C. P. Nicholls, D.S.O-, N.Z.S.C., Major W. I. K. Jennings, D. 5.0., N.Z.S.C., and Captain R. J. D. Davis, N.Z.S.C.
The Campbell Statuette carries with it the New Zealand cadet company premiership. In the past, the Wanganui company has put up splendid performances having won the competition in 1926 and 1927 and on the last tw r o occasion gaining the position of run-ner-up. This year, every effort is being made by all ranks to bring the trophy bark to Wanganui. The N.C.O.’s upon whom so much success depends have given a considerable amount of their time in an endeavour to improve their efficiency.
The following allocation of points has been drawm up in connection with the competition: “The “fall-in” of the company, 25 points; inspection, steadiness, and turn-out, 75 points; infantry drill, 100 points; weapon training, 200 points; physical and recreational training 100 points ami attendance 100 points.
Competing companies are required to have 90 per cent of their strength on parade and the remaining 10 per cent must be accounted for by letters explaining sickness, or from* employers who arc unable to free the trainee £or the evening. Great stress is laid upon the work of the company. C.O.’s, their manner, smartness, word of command, and knowledge and method of working Other cadet companies in addition to the Wanganui company taking part in the competition arc the Oamaru Company (the present holders) who are again representing the Southern Command and the Ponsonby cadets, who are representing the Northern Comma n d.
The Wanganui Cadet Company’s officers arc: Captain A» C. Loadsman, Second-Lieutenant R. D. Campbell and Second-Lieutenant J- H. Luxford. Platoon Sergeants are: C.S.M. N. J. Anderson, Sergeants D. F. Glenny, I. A. Ross, C. Sharland, W. S. Moffett and R. A. Price.
