DRAUGHTS TOURNEY

PLAY AT DUNEDIN DOMINION TITLE [ Per Press Association ] INVERCARGILL, April 25. Play in the Dominion draughts tournament was continued on Thursday when some of the players completed their 36 games. The final games in the tournament will take place to-morrow and a close finish appears almost certain. The standard of play continued very high on Thursday, although some of the players were showing the effects of the strain of the hard play and were not ’carrying .their games through with the keenness displayed earlier in the tournament. J. Lucas (Dunedin) topped the list but he has completed his play and at least three players are within striking distance of his score. D. Calderwood (Hamilton) is only one point behind Lucas and has three games to play and his possible is 28. He has to meet J. A. Brown, however, and the Christchurch champion has not been beaten yet. If Calderwood draws with Brown and wins his third game he will total 27 and is half a point below J. Boreham’s possible, the Dunedin champion having three game to add to his score of 24£. Boreham is still playing well and has won more games than any other player in the tourney to date. The first four players will probably be shared by Boreham, Calderwood, Lucas and Brows.

Results of play to date are as follows: J. Lucas (Dunedin), played 36, won 19, lost 14, drawn 3 26 D, Calderwill (Hamilton), 33, 19, 12, 2 25 J. Boreham (Dunedin), 33, 20, 9,4 244 J.
