ST. JOHN’S CLUB EASTER TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINALS AND FINALS Some close and interesting games should be provided at the St. John’s Club ’a courts during the week-end when the semi-finals and finals of the Easter tournament will be completed. In the men’s championship singles, Lampe, holder of the title will play Barkman in one semi-final and Earle will play Cox in the other. The two winners will then meet in the final. Mrs Smith will play Miss Mary Purcell holder of the title in the final of the ladies’ championship singles. Cox and Miss Cox are to play Lampe and Airs Smith (holders of the title) for the final of the mixed championship doubles. The semi-finals and final of the ladies’ championships are also to be played. Mrs Smith and Miss L. Purcell being the present holders. As to-day is the first day of the winter season all new members and prospective new members are cordially invited.

DAVIS CUP MATCH

ENGLAND AND GERMANY LANDA!ANN BEATS AUSTIN Received April 25, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, April 24. In theopening tennis match in the Anglo-German Davis Cup tie at the Queen’s Club Dr. H. Landmann (Germany) beat H. W. Austin 6 —3, B—6,8 —6, 5 7, 4—6, 6 —4. The other singles match was unfinished owing to the failing light. Prenn (Germany) is leading Lee 6—4, 7—9, 6—3. The Austin-Landmann match resolved itself into a contest of youth against staying power. An old complaint—cramp—added to the Englishman’s difficulties and showers interfered with both matches.
