“THE MIGHTY”

BANCROFT AGAIN STARRED MAJESTIC TO> SCREEN INTERESTING FILM George Bancroft appears as a rough gunman and plays opposite Esther Ralston in the all-talking picture “The Mighty,” which is the attraction at tho Majestic Theatre to-day. In his role George has no respect, for law and order, and a strong disinclination for war. After a vain fight he is forced to go to the front, and

it is not long before the reluctant private becomes an outstanding hero. He glories in his feats, and taunts his timid comrade, Jerry, with cowardice. In proving his courage Jerry dies, but not before Bancroft has promised to tell his people of his bravery when ho returns. After the war the gunman, now a major, rejoins his gang, in spite of the fact that‘he is feted as a hero by the city officials. It is when he visits Jerry’s home town that he meets his dead friend’s sister (Esther Ralston'. Unknown to Bancroft. Jerry has written to Esther of his past life, and so when the position of chief of police is offered him, she does not approve. Bancroft, however, accepts the position, and proceeds to drive out all the gangsters, preparing the way for the day when his own mob will loot the city’s three largest banks. In the midst of a great celebration in his honour, Bancroft learns that his gang has grown impatient and is about to strike for itself. The end is full of excitement.

Having completed work in “The House of Troy,” his second audible photoplay, Ramon Novarro will next appear in’“The Singer of Seville.”

Lance Fairfax, the Now Zealander, is back in the lead in “New Moon” in Sydney, having recovered from the throat, trouble which caused his withdrawal.

Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrel are soon to begin work on “High Society Blues.” The picture will be directed by David Butler and is an adaptation from the magazine story by Dana Burnett. Louise Fazenda and Lucien 'Littlefield are among the members of the supporting cast.
