Trout Fishing.
A Wanganui party who were at Tongariro over the Easter holidays report that fishing was poor. Very small catches were reported in that locality, one party topping the list with 13. “AV e caught plenty of mosquitoes, though,’’ one of the campers remarked to a “Chronicle” reporter. Slip on Main North Road. On Saturday morning last a slip occurred on the main north road (Auckland-Wellington highway) at the 11-mile peg, just the other side of Kai Iwi at a point where a deviation contract is in progress. Luckily there was no traffic passing at the time, although a car was j|st out of the way when the fall occurred. The workmen were handy and no time was lost in clearing a pathway to allow traffic to pass. On the Thursday, owing to the fact that there were several sand scams in tho cliff face, tho workmen complained to the contractor of the danger and, under instructions from the county engineer (Air T. Dix) the batter was being taken back to create a bigger slope. Roughly 700 to 800 yards of spoil came down. Progress in connection with tho deviation work has been ' hindered considerably.
