GREAT CHARTER’S WIN
THE EASTER AT RICCARTON SCORED COMFORTABLY The Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton on Monday was a splendid race throughout, and the public was substantially correct in summing up the candidates. The start was a good one, First Sight, who drew No. 3 ut the barrier, Panther and Arikiwai being the slowest to find their feet. After a furlong had been covered Meadow Lark showed out from Rin Tin Tin, Gay Crest, Great Charter, Great Star, Red Heckle and Royal Duke, with First Sight tailing the field. Meadow Lark tired at the straight entrance, and Great Charter was first to turn for home, closely attended by Meadow Lark, Great Star, Red Heckle and Panther, with First Sight making a forward move on the outside. The field bunched at the distance, but Great Charter was always going easily, and although seriously challenged by First Sight, he was able to maintain his position to beat the latter by half a length. Red Heckle was only ■ a neck away, with a similar margin to Panther, and then in close order came Arikiwai, Gay Crest, Money Mine, Meadow Lark and Rin Tin Tin, with Greenaway and Great Star the last to finish.
