HIGH COMMISSIONERS ADVICE The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated April 17, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London;— Tallow. —Market continues quiet and no change in prices. Little more business doing in mutton. Friut.—Westmoreland almost cleared. Cox’s Orange 15s to 18s; Willie Sharp, Dunn’s Favourite Ils to 13s; Shoreland Queen 12s; Alfriston, Lord Wolseley 12s to 13s; Jonathan 12s to 14s; Gravenstein 8s to Ils. Tamaroa just finished discharging. Apples in good condition but nothing has been sold as yet. Hemp.—Manila market dull and easier. “J’ gradeMarch/May shipment sold £29. Output January 1 to 12th April 454,000 bales against 534,000 bales same period last year. Stocks in Great Britain on March 31, 5541 bales, against 7733 bales same time last year.
Sisal.—Market dull with tendency downward. Fair average quality No. 1 for April/June shipment sold £33, closing at £32 10s to £33, and No. 2 £3l 15s. Buyers not interested. New Zealand market dull and tendency easier. Small business reported in Common at £25 and rejected at £23 10s for April/June shipment. Stocks in Great Britain on March 31 32 tons against 64 tons same time last year. Wool. —Partial strike in West Riding restricting demand, but quotations firm. Immediate outlook regarded with quiet optimism. Present quotations for tops are: 64’s warp 2s 4d to 2s 4jd per lb, average 2s 3d to 2s 3jd; 56’s Is 8d to Is 84d; 50’s prepared Is 5d to Is sjd, 40’s Is 3d.
