SERVICE ABANDONED

NORTHERN STEAMSHIP COY. ONEHUNGA TO NEW PLYMOUTH [ Per Press Association J • AUCKLAND, April-22. The mail and passenger service provided by the Northern Steamship Co. between Onehunga and New Plymouth for about 50 years is to be abandoned on May 3. The steamer Ngapuhi is to be withdrawn and in future the company will run a cargo service only. The decision is due to the decrease in the passenger traffic owing to the increased use of motor transport. This is the third coastal passenger run to be abandoned by the Northern Company in the last three and a half years.
