UNEMPLOYED TEACHERS
AN INSTITUTE RESOLUTION CONDITIONS WARRANT WORK [ Per Press Association ] WELLINGTON, April 18. At a meeting of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Education Institute, a discussion on unemployed teachers revealed that there are in Wellington 64 unemployed teachers (exclusive of some who are in temporary employment as relieving teachers) that classes in Wellington tended to be even larger than formerly and that the number of additional assistants appointed to meet such conditions were this year 15 as compared with 31 in June of last year. In view of these facts it was resolved: “That in the opinion of this meeting, it is obligatory upon the Government to find employment for the large number of teachers it has trained and then left with nothing to do; that employment for these teachers should be found as additional assistants; that the unduly large classes in our bigger schools make urgent the appointment of a far greater number of additional assistants than the number of unemployed teachers would provide. ’ ’
