Mr and Mrs Alex. Amon, and Miss Amon leave on Monday for a trip to England and the Continent. The long spell of dry weather is becoming serious to farmers in this district and a good downpour of ram would be very beneficial Tanks arc low and many are carrying water for household use. The roads are breaking up under the heavy traffic also and the position is becoming serious. Rugby football is now the principal topic and players are practising each evening. Both senior and junior fifteens will contain some new members this season and the prospects are said to be very bright. The playing areas in these parts are very hard and there will be some very sore footballers after competition games if the rain does not eome soon. Meanwhile the various committees are actively engaged in preparing the grounds and in stimulating interest in the game. Colonel Powles is now in charge of “Flock House,” Parewanui and the trainees are said to be progressing satisfactorily. There is a constant call for ex-Flock House lads, and they are “making good’* in new positions in various parts of the Dominion. Many of those at present in training will leave the institution in a few weeks, when another batch will take their places. The painters and decorators have completed their work at the Town Hall and the building now looks very spick-and-span. If tho Town Board could afford the expenditure much needed painting and decorating could be done inside the hall, for the walls are an eyesore at present and those using the hall for dances during the winter months have much difficulty in making the place look bright and gay.
