A SMART POCHETTE FOR MOTHER A smart pochette will make a lovely present for mother or auntie, and it 'ron’t take very long to do. If you •Jtuke it of black material, trimmed wool embroidery in bright colours, it will "go” with any of mother’s clothes, and she’s sure to be pleased with it. You will require a piece of black apron linen. 154 inches long ami 9 inches wide; a piece of orange casement cloth the same size for the lining (or any other colour you think mother would prefer); a piece of tailor’s canvas 15 inches long and 81 inches wide for stiffening; and 4” inches of jade green wool tape. Take the black linen, ami rule a line with white chalk 7 inches along one of the 9 inch sides, 24 inches up from the edge. Then make a shallow triangle with circles and ovals, all sketched in with white chalk. You’ll find it- best to go over me chalk-marks with tacking-threads before beginning the embroidery. Worn the circles in buttonhole stitches and straight stitches, to make conventional flowers; and use every bright colour you can get. putting jade green stitches here ami th »•» suggest leaves.

It can be use l for putting on the top of fruit salad or ice cream at parties, but it is equally good, served on sriTall plates with a little whipped cream. Put a pint and a half of hot water into a saucepan with two pounds of lump sugar and boil til' the mixture becomes a thick syrup. Now add half a teaspoontul of ground ginger ami one pound of crystallised ginger cut into small pieces. Stir gently all the time, and continue boiling till the mixture jellies. Turn out ineo a jam jar. cover when cold, and use as required.
