UP-RIVER NEWS

PAMONA NATIVE SCHOOL . At a meeting of parents and guardians held at the Pamoana native school, Koriniti, the following ladies were elected as the school committee for the ensuing year: Mrs J. Jury (chair), Mrs A. M. Peni (secretary), Mrs C. Bush, Mrs M. Marshall, Mrs Nikorima Pokiha (treasurer). For many years the ladies have taken a very prominent part in the management of the schools’ affairs and thus on this occasion, when the parents and guardians met, it was unanimously decided to re-elect the ladies. RUGBY NEWS. Great interest is taken in the forthcoming Rugby season in view of the early arrival of the English team to New Zealand. Practice matches are in full swing in the river district, making preparations for the commencement of the season.

Owing to the Paparoa Club being unable to enter a team in the competition, the Morikau Club have formed two teams, one of which is known as the United team. It is predicted by many who have witnessed the practice matches of these two teams, that the' championship shield is their main quest and many of their supporters hope that their prediction will be realised.

The Ohotu Football Club, the holder of the championship shield for many years, is training hard.

The Pamoana Football Club, last year’s champions, arc also getting into solid training. A general meeting of this club will be held over the week-end. All members, intending members and supporters are requested to attend.

Judging by the great, in teresand enthusiasm the river clubs are taking, some close and interesting matches should be witnessed this season.

There is therefore every possibility of the Wainui-a-Rua Sub-Union field ing a very strong representative team to defend the Whenua-Roa Shield.
