Mr H. Dashwood has been appointed the government representative on the Taihape Fire Board. Mr and Mrs F. Knight of Lyttelton, who are at present spending a few days in Taihape, are the guests of Sergeant and Mrs H. J. Joyce.

HUNTERVILLE

HUNTERVILLE THEATRE. NATURE’S COLOURS REALISTIC IN “THE VIKING.” Development of colour in motion picture photography had a long and laborious uphill climb until the release of “The Viking” by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which will be showing at Hunterville Theatre on Saturday. In this picture coloured photography proves itself a huge success. The shades and tones achieved are startlingly realistic. The colours are true to nature; flesh tints look like flesh tints; sunshine is natural, as the water of the ocean and of the land streams looks delightfully real. Pauline Starke and Le Roy Mason are the lovers who play the leading roles in “The Viking.”

OHAKUNE PERSONAL The latest removal from Ohakune is Mr and Mrs O. E. List. Mr List, who has been in charge of the local post office for the past five years, has received word of his promotion and transfer to Balclutha, South Otago. Mr List, since his coming to Ohakune, has done everything in his power to further the interests of Ohakune and the P. and T. Department. He has at all times proved an obliging officer and an active member of the community.

THE TALKIES

Undoubtedly the talkies are receiving a great hearing. Fully 80 people were turned away from the hall on Saturday evening through there being a “full house.” In Ohakune township it. was most noticeable by the few people about. In Raetihi it was somewhat similar.

TENNIS CLUB DANCE

On Friday night there was a fair attendance at the Ohakune Tennis Club’s dance, including several players from the Raetihi, Rangataua and Ohakune Junction clubs. Although the function was not a financial success it wa«

most enjoyable and the club intends to hold another in about six weeks’ time in St. John’s Hall. The committee had gone to a great deal of trouble in connection with the dance and the hall was prettily decorated with the club’s colours, blue and gold streamers, and flowers. An excellent supper was in the capable hands of Air H. Sinclair, the • catering beiiig done by Mrs Murray and Mr Curran. Excellent music was provided by the Peerloss Orchestra and Miss Snooks and others kindly played extras. The floor was in tip-top order and Mr G. Laming made an efficient M.C. The spot waltz competition was won by Miss V Clemctt and partner, and the Monte Carlo by Miss G. Urwin and partner. The dance committee of club members worked well together and certainly deserved better support and encouragement.
