BRITAIN TO AUSTRALIA
PLANS OF NEW ZEALANDERS. MAT ATTACK HINKLER’S TIME [By Telegraph l —Press Association —Copyright] Received Feb. 9, 8 p in. LONDON, ’Feb. 8. Flying-Officers H. L. Piper and z ’l Kay, New Zealanders who are members of the R.A.F. who have obtained three months’ leave to visit their homes, have purchased a De Soutter three-scater air taxi of the latest pattern with 1000 miles cruising speed. They have altered it to a two-seater and arc installing an extra petrol tank in place of the third scat, giving the monoplane an 850 miles’ range. They are hoping to take off before dawn on February 9. The first stop will be Lyons, thereafter Naples, Malta, Tripoli, Baghdad, Karachi, Rangoon, Kaepang and Darwin. If they reach Egypt under three days they will attempt to beat Hinkler’s record to Australia.
They do not intend to fly the Tas man Sea, being content to reach Sydney by air.
