CANADIAN WHEAT

A CANARD DENIED MONTREAL, Feb. 7. The Winnipeg officials of the wheat pool and grain trade to-day labelled as a canard, so far as they were concerned, the report from Ottawa that representations to the Dominion Government from Winnipeg had urged that the surplus wheat be taken over by the Government to meet a national emergency. Nothing had been heard by Mr Malcolm (Minister of Trade and Commerce at Toronto) regarding the reported approach of the Government concerning the wheat surplus. He said that there was no foundation for any panic or chaotic condition.
