GLADIOLI SHOW
DISPLAY AT THE DRILL HALL. ST. ALBAN’S METHODIST SOCIETY Although in many gardens in Wanganui and district, gladioli are grown in wonderful variety and profusion, up to the present no horticultural society has catered for lovers of the stately flowers; probably because they are at their best during the holiday month of the year. Some months ago, the St. Albans Alethodist Society decided to meet the need, and during the intervening time special preparation has been made, nurserymen and private growers willingly combining with the Society, with the result that an outstanding display will be made at the show in the Drill Hall, Alaria Place, on Thursday and Friday next So satisfied are the promoters that all who attend on the opening day will broadcast their delight, that a two days show will be staged. The comprehensive schedule includes classes for all summer flowers, fruit and vegetables, as well as a full range of decorative classes, ferns, foliage and flowering pot plants. Air Burns of Upper Aramoho, who has five hundred separate named varieties of gladioli, will stage a very large number for'exhibition, Mr W. G. Alartin will specialise in carnations; all the latest novelties in dahlias will bd exhibited by Mr A. J. Shailer of Palmerston North, Air F.’ Alason, of Feilding, will bring polyantha, roses and hydrangeas, while attractive displays of a varied character will be made by Airs Lethbridge and Alessrs Benefield, Rasmussen, and the city nurseries. In the tearooms the Ladies’ Guild will serve refreshments, and sweets, and produce stalls in the hall will be under their charge. Schedules may be procured from Rev. J. Olphert, who will also receive entries up to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
