A FARMER’S DEATH

DROWNED WHILE FISHING [ Per Press Association ] INVERCARGILL, Dec. 9. A well-known farmer, James Smith, of Barnego, near Balclutha, while trout fishing on the Pamahaka yesterday with a party of anglers, became separated from his comrades. When he did not arrive at the appointed meeting place in the evening fears were entertained for his safety. Search parties were organised and this afternoon the missing man’s rod and line were found. Dragging operations commenced and Smith’s body was later recovered in about 20 feet of water.
