BLASTING accident

A PREMATURE EXPLOSION WORKMAN SUSTAINS INJURIES [ Per Press Association-? CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 5. A blasting accident occurred on thc Summit Road works this afternoon. A plug of gelignite prematurely. H. Yeatman, married, a wellknown athlete, was seriously injured. He was the head man of a co-opcrativc gang of men employed by the Government on relief work. He was experienced in the use of explosives and apparently used a short length of fuse, which fired while he was tamping the charge and the fuse into a hole. The charge fired and drove the tamping rod through Yeatman’s forearm, injuring his face. There have previously been two fatal blasting accidents within recent months on the Summit Road works.
