TWO GIRLS DROWNED
TRAGEDY AT A BEACH. SYDNEY, Dec. 5. Two schoolgirls—Thelma Riley, aged 15, and Elvy Hamilton, aged nine—were drowned in the surf at Thirroul on the south coast. Two others in the sam e party were rescued at the point of exhaustion. The tragedy x was relieved only by the heroism oi the beach inspector, Jack Rankin, who after rescuing the two searched for the others. He had to be dragged forcibly from the water and needed medical attention.
