Mr W. J. Rogers left this morning for Wellington, where he will attend the quarterly meeting of the Municipal Association.

Advice that Dr David Nathan Eppstein, a former Aucklander, has qualified for his F.R.C.S degree, has been received in Auckland. Dr Eppstein is only 25 years old. The death of Father Francis Tondorf. Director of the Georgetown University siesmological observatory, is reported from Washington. He died on Friday, in his sleep. Mr W. J Wakelin, of the Christchtfrch Branch of the Labour Department, has been promoted to be officer-in-charge of the Wellington District Office. He takes up his duties early in December. Guests at Foster’s Hotel include:— Messrs P Duncan (Christchurch), T. Pinner (Perth). W. A. Parton, G. Bowkett (Auckland), W. A. Parton, C. Staite (Wellington), and C. H. Burgess (New Plymouth). Mr E. F. Hildreth, of Newton, Auckland, formerly deputy-conductor of the Palmerston North Garrison Band, has been appointed conductor of the Takapuna Municipal Band in succession to Mr Rex Wills.

The Commander of New Zealand Military Forces, Major-General R. Young, C. 8., C.M.G., D. 5.0., has received notification of a two-year extension of the time limit on his period of appointment in that position.

Mr J. Williams was last night appointed a delegate to represent the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce at the public meeting to be held in connection with promoting an Anniversary Day Regatta on the Wanganui River.

Mr G. F. Bridgman, of the publicity staff of the West Ham Corporation Electricity Department, who is leaving for New Zealand to take up an appointment under the Dominion Government, was entertaied by a large gathering of members of the staff, reports a London correspondent, Mr J. A Townley, the electrical engineer, made a presentation to Mr Bridgman on behalf of the staff.
