Tht Government’s Road Traffic Bill was introduced in the House of Lords. The main proposals arc the abolition of the speed limit of 20 miles an hour, fixing a speed limit of 30 miles for motor coaches, no speed limit for light cars and motor cycles, heavy penalties for careless and dangerous driving, applicants for driving licenses must make a declaration of physical fitness, compulsory insurance against third party risks. The Minister of Transport will issue a highway code applicable to all road users, including pedestrians.
