NOTES FROM RICCARTON
COMMENT ON CANDIDATES STAYERS AND SPRINTERS (Special to “Chronicle.”) CHRISTCHURCH Nov. 7. Money Mine will be ridden in the New' Zealand Cup by the South Canterbury apprentice, L. Woolford. The successful lightweight T. Webster has been engaged to ride Spearmiss in the New Zealand Cup. Chide wound up his New Zealand Cup preparation this morning with a firstclass gallop of a mile and a-quart.er. It was impossible to take the sectional times correctly on account of the thick fog but he covered the full journey in 2.9, the timing of the distance being easy as the distance between the startting and finishing posts is short. The Derby candidate Meprisant joined in for the last mile and he was being ridden hard at the end, while Chide seemed to be bowling along quite comfortably. Taking a line through other gallops over the distance later Chide’s performance was an exceptionally attractive effort and his Cup admirers are more confident than ever. Concentrate and Speanniss registered an excellent performance over nine furlongs this morning. They carried only light weights but they went well all through and finished well after doing the fastest last mile of the. morning. Seatown went very pleasingly in a mile and a-quarter gallop this morning with Yoma. There was not much between them at the end but Seatown appeared to holding his mate comfortably. He looks in great condition. Historic was responsible for a good mile and a-quarter gallop this morning but Prodice was going quite as well as the Cup topweight at the finish, while In the Shade was just behind them, also travelling on. Th© time was fairly good and it was a very satisfactory effort. These three North Islanders are in capital condition..
Hoylake was stretched out over seven furlongs this morning as a wind-up to his Cup preparation and he got through his task in very attractive style, finishing on strongly. The imported horse has come on a lot during the past week or two and he should be capable of a good performance. Paganelli Pleases. Paganelli registered another brilliant performance over five furlongs this morning . It was, however, n 0 more than was to be expected that this great galloper would put up good time as he represents the best sprinting class in the Dominion and he was carrying a light weight. In spite of his big burden in the Stewards’ Handicap he looks certain to be in the picture all through the journey. Consent gained admirers for the. Stewards’ Handicap by the manner m which he got through a sprinting task this morning. The Hawke’s Bay three-year-old Hunting Cry went well in a six-furlong spin this morning. He is a very attractive galloper who may be seen to advantage during the Riccarton carnival. The two-year-old Tray Bond was responsible for an exceptionally brilliant half-mile this morning. She has a wonderful burst of speed and she will be hard to beat in half-mile events next week, while she only has to run out the last furlong decently to be very dangerous in the Welcome Stakes on Saturday. _ H. Gray, who will bS at Riccarton on Saturday, has been engaged to ride Dolomite if the imported horse runs in the Spring Plate, which is doubtful at present.
