“DEATH BLOW TO JAZZ”

DROPPED BY LONDON TEACHERS [ Australian Press Assn. ] LONDON, Oct. 29. A secret conference of London’s •lance teachers has given the death blow to jazz. Everywhere there are signs of the growing unpopularity of jazz and instructors are facing the grim truth that jazz dancing is dying The great Hammersmith Palais De Dance, ‘‘London’s Ballroom,” has been closed down and converted into an ice rink, and restaurants are cutting down dances and substituting cabaret turns for them. Speakers at the conference declared that the dance hall that had the courage to revive the waltz, polka and lancers would make a fortune. The instruc tors finally decided to return to the tango. Special bands are now being engaged for a big tango drive throughout England.
