BIRTH OF ELAND
FIRST IN CAPTIVITY ARRIVAL AT ZOO (Special to “Chronicle”) AUCKLAND, Oct. 31. A young eland was born at the zo» this week. The animal belongs to the antelope species. The Mayor, Mr G. Baildon, who made a visit to the Zoo this morning, said he believed the newcomer was the first of its kind ever born in captivity. It is also the first baby of a young pair acquired by the City Council about five years ago.
