BRITAIN AND INDIA

SIR JOHN SIMON’S RECOMMENDATIONS ( Australian Press Assn. ] Received Nov. 1, 12.2 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 31. The Indian Office publishes correspondence between Sir John Simon, as head of the Indian statutory Commission, and the Prime Minister (Mr Ramsay MacDonald) the former pointing out that whatever be its final report it will be wise to stage an account of the relation between British India and the Indian States. Sir John Simon suggests that when the Commission’s work is completed the Government should confer with representatives of British India and the States in order to secure the greatest possible measure of agreement. Mr MacDonald replied that he had first consulted the leaders of the other political parties who would accept the suggestion. The British Government will, therefore, summon the conference, which Sir John Simon had suggested.
