Lady Alice Fergusson means to carry away with her some tangible reminiscences of New Zealand, for, in company with Aliss Richmond, she made no fewer than five little sketches on her recent visit to Dawson Falls. Her visit was something of a surprise one, and at a small Maori settlement to which she paid an unexpected call, the chief was much concerned that she should leave without some sort of present. There was no time for anything elaborate, so he dashed outside into the garden of his home, and returned with a basket of large and portly kumaras. As an impromptu gift, the basket must have pleased Lady Alice as much as any souvenir which she has received on her farewell tour.
