FIGHTING T.B.
CHRISTMAS SEAL CAMPAIGN SPECIALLY DESIGNED STAMP In connection with the anti-tuber-culosis Christmas seal campaign, telegraphic communication from the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J Stallworthy, states that ‘the supplementary penny stamp originally referred to will be superseded by a specially designed combined postage and charity twopenny stamp —postage one penny and charity one penny. The alteration in the first proposal is made to comply with, the International Postal Convention. With reference to stamps used on i letter faces, it was not possible to produce the particularly fine design most desired. Another year this may be adopted. The central figure of the design, upon which engravers are busy, is a New Zealand nurse in uniform, with a Maori border. On either side the words “Help to stamp out tuberculosis” appear on the stamp as an indication of tho purpose to which the proceeds will be devoted. The designing and printing is being done in New Zealand and it is expected that tho stamp will be on sale at the end of November. A grateful ex-patient of Pukeroa Sanatorium, a young man fully restored to health and industry, writes to the Minister enthusiastically endorsing the anti-T.B. Christmas seal campaign. He expresses pleasure in enclosing £25 for the purchase of three thousand of these special stamps.
