CITY COUNCIL VACANCIES
LABOUR SELECTS CANDIDATE. MR D. DWYER SEEKS ELECTION. The Wanganui Labour Representation Committee held a largely attended meeting last evening, when all the affiliations, representing over 1000 members discussed the question, of nominations for the vacancies qu the City Council. The unanimous feeling of the committee was that the city should be saved the expense of an election, and with that end in view it was decided to put forward only oiig Labour candidate for one of the vacancies. Air A. Hickford, who was one of the Labour candidates at the municipal elections held* 1 in Alay last, and who was third highest on the list of defeated candidates, regretted that he could not see his way clear to accept nomination, due to pressure of private business.
Mr D. Dwyer, president of the Waterside Workers’ Union, who was also a Labour candidate at the municipal elections and polled no less than 2880 votes, was unanimously selected to be the Labour candidate.
