TAIHAPE GOLF NOTES An inter-club match between the TaiEape and Mangaweka Golf Clubs was played on the Raukura links during the week-end and resulted in a win for the Taihape club. Four ball matches were played in the morning and again in the afternoon and although Taihape won all the games except one, which was halved, some of the matches were keenly contested. Detailed results were as follows. Taihape players being mentioned first in each instance:— Morning Matches Crawford and McClure beat Waymouth and Stewart; A. C. Joblin and O’Callaghan beat Dickson and Barrell; K. Joblin and James beat Lawson and J. Johnston; Addis and Eaton halved with Dalrymple ‘and Trewby; Boss and Benson beat Bailey and H. Johnston. The morning matches were played over 9 holes. Afternoon Matches Crawford and McClure beat Waymouth and Stewart; A. C. Joblin and O’Callaghan beat Dickson and Barrell; K. Joblin and James beat Lawson and J. J. Johnston; Addis and Eaton beat Dalrymple and Trewby; Ross and Richards beat Bailey and H. Johnston. The afternoon matches were played over 18 holes. The visitors were officially welcomed by Mr A. James, president of the Taihape Golf Club, who thanked the Mangaweka club for sending a team to Taihape and hoped that the visitors had enjoyed themselves. In responding Mr J. Lawson, president of the Mangaweka Golf Club thanked the Taihape club for its hospitality and added that the Mangaweka team had enjoyed every minute of the visit. Special mention was made of the manner in which both teams had been entertained by the ladies of the Taihape Golf Club. MAJESTIC THEATRE. “Wolves of the City,” starring William Cody, will open at this theatre tonight (Tuesday). It is another of those ever popular Universal thrill features with an underworld theme. Cody is supported in “ Wolves of the City’* by Sally Blaine, one of the most talented of the younger actresses in Hollywood, The picture was directed bv Leigh Jason, from the original story by Vai Cleveland. The film is one of rapidly moving action and tense, exciting situations. VALEDICTORY. Mr and Mrs H. A. Lamb, who left Mataroa yesterday to take up their residence in Aramoho (Wanganui) were farewelled by the residents of Mataroa and the surrounding districts, at a dance held in their honour at the Mataroa Hall on Saturday evening. Excellent music was supplied by the Tui Orchestra whilst Messrs S. Troy, L. Cleaver and R. Cleaver carried out the duties of M.C. During an interval Mr H. H. Steedman referred to the prominent part Mr and Mrs Lamb had taken in the affairs of Mataroa and the? surrounding dis tricts during the past nine years, and on behalf of the residents of Mataroa. Papanui and Tiriraukawa he presented them with a cheque for £5O, and also made a further presentation of a silver tea pot to Mrs Lamb. In making presentations Mr Steedman said that the people of Mataroa, Tiriraukawa and Papanui deeply regretted the impending departure of Mr and Mrs Lamb, whom they held in the highest esteem, and wished them every success and happiness in their new sphere. Mr C. Cleaver, president of the Mataroa Dog Trial Club and the Mataroa Sports Club, spoke highly of the services rendered those two bodies by Mr Lamb. On behalf of the Tiriraukawa, Mataroa and Papanui Football Clubs Mr J. Hurst presented Mr Lamb with a ease containing a gold fountain pen and gold “Sheaffer” pencil. Horace Garmonsway spoke on behalf of thfe' ex-pupils of the Mataroa School and presented Arthur Lamb with a set of military hair brushes, whilst Graham Lamb received a leather pocket wallet from the pupils of the Mataroa School. In returning thanks for the handsome gifts and expressions of esteem which accompanied them, Mr Lamb said that he and Mrs Lamb were sorry to leave Mataroa as they had always found the residents of the district warm-hearted and hospitable. They had lived at Mataroa for the past nine years and had enjoyed immensely their A association with the residents of the district. They would look forward to the time when they would have the opportunity of visiting Mataroa again and renewing old friendships. RAETIHI WAIMARINO GOLF CLUB. The ladies’ championship final was played between Mrs Murray and Miss Legge on the 29th. Conditions were ideal, except for a fresh southerly breeze. The game was very even all the way and the players were all square at the 18th hole. At the 19th both were 29 feet from the pin in four. Mrs Murray’s approach putt was short and the next failpd to drop into the tin. Miss Legge took two putts and became the winner by two up. Driving and putting competitions were held on the 29th. Murray and Davies were first and second respectively, the former obtaining the longest drive. Mrs Murray and Miss T. Murray were first and second in the ladies’ division. Mrs Windle obtained the longest drive; the wind was blowing towards the competitors, and no great distances were recorded. Putting was from the four corners of the home green. Murray was first among the men with 8, Davies being second with 9. Mrs Windle and Mrs Jennings tied with 9 each. A team will play Taumarunui, at Taumarunui, on the 6th inst.

' RAN QI WAHI A p J BULB SHOW Rather unpleasant weather conditions prevailed for the fourth annual bulb show, held on Saturday. However, in tho afternoon the sun shone, and, as usual, a large crowd was present. Owing to the bad season for flowers, there was a small entry of flowers and decorations, but the blooms that were exhibited were exceedingly fine. The show was formally opened by Mr J. G. Cobbe, M.P., who, in a brief speech, expressed his appreciation and good wishes for the success of the society.
