A. W. Benton, who is a missionary. He told me he was going to the upper reaches of the Amazon in a 70ft. motor launch, and the upshot was that J took ‘ a post as his engineer. The parson will be the skipper. “We hope to strike a patch of nice weather, and if we reach South America safely we shall make the trip i up the Amazon to the remote part of 1 the upper reaches, where Mr Benton is I to carry on his missionary work.” y Mr Woodcock aid that he left England 45 years ago for Wellington, but did not reach that place until immediately before joining the Corinthic. “I went ashore at Hobart,” he explained, “missing rejoining the ship by a few minutes, and found work at that port.” Though he had since visited many parts of New Zealand and Australia, he added, he had never, until the Corinthic’s call set foot in the town which was his destination when he tailed from England in 1884.
