TWENTY DEATHS REPORTED [ Australian Press Assn. ] Received Sept. 29, 8 p.m. MIAMI (Florida) Sept. 27 Twenty deaths as the result of two day’ hurricane at Nassau, Bahamas, are reported by a despatch to the New York Herald. SOUTHERN FLORIDA SWEPT ANXIETY FOR VESSELS ! Australian Press Assa.—United Service! Received Sept. 29, 11 p.m, NEW YORK, Sept. 28. A tropical hurricane on Saturday night moved across the island-studded southern extremity of Florida with predications that it would continue westward into the Gulf of Mexico. Driving gales swept the east coast of the Peninsular, wrecking considerable property. Several persons were injured at Miami. Apprehension is felt for towns in the south. Tumultuous seas hid the fate of many boats, two of which, the Isle of June and the Bahamian, were large craft and were known to be in the path of the hurricane with 20 men aboard. Dozens of small craft were broken to pieces at Nashu where zO are reported to be killed. The hurricane lasted two days, the district being without communication. The Colonial Government is taking stock of what is described as the worst blow in the history of Florida. Nassau apparently lacked the power to operate the radio which gave the first news of the disaster.
Havanna escaped the hurricane yet suffered considerable damage from high sejts. ___
