HOCKEY
LAST MATCH OF SEASON BIJOU CUP FINAL Tl»' curtain was rung down upon the 1929 hockey season on Saturday, when the final of the Bijou Cup competition was played, the contesting teams being Star and Old Boys. Weather conditions were ideal and the ground was in good order. Neither club was able to field its best side and Star played one short throughout. Play in the first spell was very even and at the interval no score had been registered. Midway through the second spell Voss made a strong run for Old Boys and though his shot was stopped a scramble ensued in the Star goal mouth and eventually the ball crossed the line into the net. —Old Boys 1; Star 0. Within a few minutes Star equalised, Tizard scoring from a penalty corner. — Star 1; Old Boys 1. Both sides made strenuous efforts to obtain the lead and play veered from end to end at a great pace. Eventually Potbury secured in a handy position and scored with a brilliant first-time shot. —Star 2; Old Boys 1. Shortly afterwards the reds went further ahead. Potbury shot twice but Mitchell stopped both times. However, Pitkethly was handy and carried the ball into the net.—Star 3; Old Boys 1. Old Boys for a time made strong attacks, but could not secure the necessary goals. Just before time Latham netted again for Star, but offside by another forward nullified the effort. There was no further scoring and the game ended:— Star _ 3 Old Boys 1 Messrs N. and G. Hughes refereed.
