THE PICTURES

The screen story of “Excess Baggage,” which will be shown at Marton to-morrow afternoon and vening, is remarkably well knit and never flags in interest from start to finish. The audience alternated between laughter and tears with an occasional moment out to cheer.

The plot is based on a small time vaudeville troupe where Haines , as Eddie Kane, marries Josephine Dunn (a real stress by the way) The wife finds herself to be merely “Excess Baggage” in her husband's act and when she is given an opportunity for screen success takes advantage of it. Without her, Kane finds that he can no longer do his dangerous act which was just to earn him fame and fortune on the big time and he, in his turn, becomes “Excess Baggage.” A year later both parties meet in New York City and work out their problem in an exciting and novel manner. The resulting picture is real screen entertainment of the very highest order.

BULLS

THE PICTURES.

The all-star “Square Crook” will be screened at Bulls Town Hall to-mor-row (Saturday) evening, supported by the comedy “Grief in Bagdad.’’ Two black sheep, Eddie Ellison and Larry Scott, are trying to turn white. The.r idea of an honest calling is that of chaffeur and footman for a rich family. The boys' fear that their past will at some time confront them is justified, for their bitter enemy, Harry Welch, from headquarters, is close on their trail.

STRUCK BY GOLF CLUB

AN UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT Mr Archie Morton, a well known farmer of Silvcrhope, Hunterville, met with painful injuries at Bulls on Thursday morning. It appears that Mr Morton and his daughter were on a visit to a relative, Mrs H. A. Goodall, and while practising shots on a lawn there, Miss Morton swung a golf chib, which caught her father in the mouth, smashing his teeth and inflicting a nasty cut, while it is feared that his jaw is also broken. Medical aid was quickly obtained and Mr Morton was subsequently conveyed to Feilding to have his j.aw examined under X-ray. Needless to say the unfortunate occurrence was purely accidental, and the parties concerned are deeply sympathised with.
