HANDICAPS TOR FIRST DAY [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Aug. 21.

GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETS. The general committee of the Marton Jockey Club met on Tuesday evening there being present —Messrs R. E. Beckett (chairman), D. G. Kiddiford, E. Openshaw, I. Jefferson, J. H. C. Broad, R. H. Trotter, S. J. Gibbons, J. Brice S. R. Hammond H. J. Cameron, J. R. L. Stanford and the secretary. A communication was received from the New Zealand Racing Conference with reference to persons being admitted to the totalisator house during race flays, and the committee decided to carry the Conference’s recommendations, so that in future only the totalisator steward, stipendiary steward, racecourse inspector and Government totalisator inspector will be permitted access to the totalisator during race days (in addition to the totalisator staff).

In future a line of £1 will be imposed by the Licensing Committee on applicants for trainers’, jockeys’ apprentices 1 and gentlemen riders’ licenses for the ensuing season (1929-30), who have failed to make application to the District Committee of the Metropolitan District in which they reside, not later than May 31.

Mr J. R. L. Stanford gave a resume oT the business transacted at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Racing Conference, and a vote of thajfks was accorded the club’s delegates (Messrs J. R. L. Stanford and J. H. Perrett). J- M. Yourell was granted permission t<» sell tobacco, cigarettes etc. at the club’s forthcoming race meetings. Mr A. C. Vincent was appointed starter for the summer meeting. A vote of thanks was accorded the Marton Retailers’ Association for their co-operation in closing their places of business at 12 noon on each day of the spring meeting and for giving every assistance to their employees who have positions at the race meeting.
