OBITUARY

PROFESSOR PEAKE LONDON, Aug. 19. The death is reported of Professor Arthur Samuel Peake, Theologian. Professor Peale had been Rylans’ Professor of Biblical Exegesis, Victoria University, Manchester, since 1904; tutor in Hartley Primitive Methodist College, Manchester, since 1892 and editor of the Holborn Review since 1919. He was born at Leek, Staffoidshire in 1865 and was the second son of the Rev. Samuel Peate. He was educated at Ludlow, Stratford-on-Avon and Coventry Grammar Schools, and St. John’s College, Oxford. He published numerous works on theology among them “A Guide to Biblical Study,” “Christianity, Its Nature and Its Truth,” “The Bible, Its Origin, Its Significance and Its Abiding Worth,” and last year, “Recent Developments in Old Testament Criticism.”
