LONG FLIGHT TO JAPAN

VOYAGE OF GRAF ZEPPELIN RECEPTION BECOMES CHAOTIC. (Sun Cable). Received August 20, 11 p.m. KOBE, Aug. 20. The Graf Zeppelin entered the hangar at nightfall. It was a ticklish operation, as there was only a few inches’ clearance. Thousands rushed the ground, toppling over the armed marines. Tho passengers, after meeting the Customs officials in the hangar, emerged by a side door, avoiding the crowd. Captain Eckener and Herr Schiller were given an ovation. They were swept into a marquee where the reception was becoming chaotic when Captain Eckener was lifted on to a table. He was bombarded with flashlights while the band played the German anthem, the Germans joining in. The Minister of Communications and other distinguished officials were unable to reach Eckener, who stayed the night in the airship. He told a Sun interviewer that the flight was free of trouble and had been favoured with perfect weather. Prior to landing, the Zeppelin flew over Tokio in the afternoon, escorted b} seven aeroplanes. It passed near the Imperial Palace and proceeded to Y’okohaina. It then returned and again crossed the capital and disappeared northwards for the naval aerodrome at Kasumigaura.
