WEEKLY MEETING HELD. MANAGEMENT AFFAIRS. At the weekly meeting last night of the management committee of thc Wanganui Metropolitan Rugby Union there were present: Messrs C. H. Warden (chairmen), C. S. Swan® H. Hague Smith, J. B. Rowe, P. Wilson, J. Moye, T. A. Tait, L. Southcombe, A. Danielson, A. Takarangi, R. Greenwood and R. I. Sewell.

The invitation to the Wanganui Referees’ Association to next Monday night’s dinner was accepted, and the president was asked to attend to represent the Metropolitan Union. The action of the secretary in regard to the President’s Rose Bowl challenge by Kaierau to Taihape was confirme 1, it being reported that Rata’s challenge was in first.

It was intimated by thc Wanganui Rugby Council that the teams taking part in the match between Wanganui and Taranaki at Wanganui on Satur day would be entertained at lunch at. the Criterion Hotel and at dinner, after the match, at Spriggens Hotel. Marist fourths were granted permission to play Hunterviße 4 hi rds at Hunterville on Saturday next.

i Marist Club’s challenge for tho Maoriland Cup, held by Pirate thirds, was referred to the fixtures committee. In connection with the report by Marist Club regarding a prayer’s pasn being used by other than a player, it was decided to impress on local clubs that they must enforce stricter supervision of the issue of tickets and that the player’s name should be entered on the butt and on The ticket also.

The question of arranging a function for tho annual presentation of cups was deferred till next Tuesday. The matter of arranging for a third grade match between Pirates and Obi Boys on Saturday next was referred to the fixtures committee.

It was reported that the gross takings last Saturday had been £5B 6s 6d. Mr J. Crowley was appointed manager of the Wanganui representative team to play Rangitikei at Marton on Saturday, August 31. The Charity Cup matches for next Saturday week were fixed as follows: Senior.—Kaierau v. Pirates. Junior.—Kaierau v. Marist.

Subject to favourable replies being received in regard to/ the visiting teams, the following fixtures were arranged for the remaining vacant dates during the present season:— September 7. —Johnsonville v. Technical Old Boys; Ruapehu v. Wanganui representatives. September 21.—Taihape v. Wanganui Juniors; Poenake v. Kaierau.

It was decided to convey a recommendation to the Wanganui Rugby Council for the coming conference at New Plymouth that an arrangement be made to play the return match with Taranaki not later than the second week in August ea?h year. "As you are aware, in the recent match with Taihape several players who we're picked to make the trip did not go, and the selectors were asked to report on same, and in considering their report my committee are not satisfied by the explanation given by Messrs James and Duncan, as to their inability to make the trip. politan Union called forth the following ing reply from the Pirate Club, to whom thc letter had been addressed:— “The Pirate Club executive considers that the letter should have been forwarded to the playeca themselves as thc club has nothing whatever to do with players making trips with representative teams and is entirely disconnected with the absence of these men from the team. Whatever explanation they may have had for their absence has not been given to our club. Tho executive does not feel that it is within their province to enquire into th. 6 matter as doubtless whatever reasons they have are best known to the players themselves.” The letter was received.
