RAIDING ACTIVITY
NUMEROUS CASUALTIES [ Australian Press Assn. ] SHANGHAI, Aug. 19. While it is definitely untrue that Sino-Russian hostilities have broken out, week-end reports indicate that irregulars on both sides are showing considerable raiding activities, while both are willing to avert war. The Soviet is afraid of the entrance of the White Russians into Siberia where the peasantry are heart and soul Whites. A raid by Soviet forces near Manchuli twelve miles within the Chinese border, resulted in a thjec hours’ battle. Twenty-seven Chinese were killed. The Chinese repulsed a cavalry raid. Mongols raided a Chinese town near Hailar. They were eventually driven off. The Manchurians are preparing for an attack of major hostilities. Ten thousand Soviet troops descended pn Jalanor. The fight lasting all day resulted in the Chinese losing sixty killed. The Russian losses are unknown.
