Visitors to the British Museum duF ing 1928 numbered 1,181,617, as compared with 1,154,566 in 1927, thus beating even the record of the Wembly Exhibition year. In the Reading Room tho visitors totalled’ 215,449, and the number of volumes supplied was 1,505,761. An increase is shown in visits to every Department, except the Medal Room. The annual report, published by the Stationery Office, states that, following the recommendations of the Royal Commission that the Library should be provided with addition|il dation, work will be commenced this year. This will include the eventual reconstruction of the entire bookstack and the removal of the whole newspaper department to Hendon. The total number of objects added to the collection during 1928 was 428,802, a decrease of 33,440 compared with the preceding year. The Natural History Museum, South Kensington, showed a slight decline in attendances at in 1928. compared with 569,317 in 1927. The number of acquisitions during the ywar was 261,243, of which 28,480 were purchases and 232,763 donations or exchanges.
