The outbreak has been extinguished in No. 1 hold, and No. 2 hold is flooded. Considerable damage has resulted to cargo loaded at New York. The Pakipaki was to sail from New York last Monday for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin. The cargo generally loaded at New York for New Zealand comprises motor cars and accessories, paper, electrical goods, radio sets and general merchandise, including case oil not infrequently. The New Zealand Shipping Company is the local agent. The Pakipaki was a German reparation ship, being originally named the Amnion, and on being handed over to Great Britain was renamed the Trewinnard. She has visited New Zealand previously with cargo from New York. The Pakipaki was built in 1914 at Flensburg (Schleswig-Holstein) by the Flensburg Shipbuilding Company, and she was engined by the same company. Her principal dimensions are: Lenth, 472 ft 2in., beam 60ft 9in; depth 28ft 6in.
